App Comparison
Same Spark.
More Fire.
Ember and Emberly sound alike — but they're not the same app. Ember locks its AI scanner behind Premium and treats pairings as a note. Emberly includes AI scanning on the free plan (5/month; unlimited on Premium), pairs every cigar with the perfect spirit, and connects you to a real community.
Ember or Emberly?
Looking for the Ember cigar app and landed here? You're in the right place to compare. Ember: AI Cigar Companion is a personal cigar journal. Emberly is a separate app from a different team — it covers the same journal-and-humidor ground, but includes AI scanning on the free plan, adds a real cigar-and-spirits pairing engine, and builds in a living community. Here's exactly how they stack up. Emberly is not affiliated with Ember: AI Cigar Companion.

The Same Idea,
Taken Further
A Scanner You Don't Pay For
Ember puts its AI band scanner behind a Premium subscription. Emberly's scanner — up to 98% confidence on brand, blend, wrapper, and vitola — is included on the free plan with 5 AI scans per month. Premium unlocks unlimited scanning.
Pairing, Not Just a Note Field
In Ember, a pairing is something you jot down after the fact. In Emberly, it's a recommendation: scan a cigar and instantly see the ideal bourbon, scotch, rum, or tequila — with a compatibility score and a reason why, from an 1,800+ spirits catalog.
A Community, Not a Diary
Ember is built around your solo journal and streaks. Emberly adds the people: a social feed, community polls, leaderboards, public profiles, and direct messaging — so every smoke can be shared, discussed, and discovered.

Why it matters
Where Emberly
Pulls Ahead
Your Scanner Shouldn't Be Paywalled
Identifying a mystery cigar is the single most-used feature in any cigar app — so it shouldn't sit entirely behind a subscription. Ember reserves its AI band scanner for Premium members. Emberly includes 5 complimentary AI scans per month on Free (unlimited on Premium), reaching up to 98% confidence on brand, blend, wrapper, and vitola with no barcode required.
A Real Pairing Engine, Not a Text Box
Ember lets you record what you drank alongside a cigar. Emberly tells you what to drink. Scan a cigar and Emberly instantly recommends the ideal bourbon, scotch, rum, or tequila — complete with a compatibility score and tasting notes explaining exactly why the match works, drawn from a catalog of over 1,800 spirits. No other cigar app does this.
People, Not Just Streaks
Ember rewards you with achievements and smoking streaks in a solo journal. Emberly gives you all of that and a place to belong: post smokes to the Lounge feed, vote in community polls, climb the leaderboards, follow other enthusiasts, and message them directly. The hobby is better shared.
The Same Name Energy — With More Behind It
If you searched for "Ember" and found Emberly, here's the short version: everything you liked about Ember's journal and humidor is here, AI scanning is included on Free (5/month; unlimited on Premium), pairings become recommendations, and there's a whole community waiting. It's the enthusiast experience Ember hints at, fully built out.

FAQ
They're two separate apps with similar names. Ember (Ember: AI Cigar Companion) is a personal cigar journal with a humidor tracker, shop discovery, achievements, and an AI band scanner available on its Premium plan. Emberly does all of that — but includes AI scanning on the free plan, adds a true cigar-and-spirits pairing engine backed by an 1,800+ spirits catalog, and includes a full community with a social feed, polls, leaderboards, and direct messaging.
No — Ember's AI cigar band scanner is a Premium feature that requires a paid subscription. Ember lets you record a pairing as a note when you log a smoke, but it doesn't suggest one. Emberly has a dedicated pairing engine: scan a cigar and it recommends the ideal bourbon, scotch, rum, or tequila with a compatibility score and tasting notes, drawing on a catalog of more than 1,800 spirits. It's Emberly's defining feature.
Absolutely. Emberly covers the same core ground as Ember — humidor tracking, a smoke journal, shop discovery, and achievements — so it will feel familiar right away. The difference is what you get on top: a free scanner, real spirit pairings, and a community. Emberly is free to join, and Premium ($4.99/month) includes a 7-day free trial — cancel anytime.
